GOVERNMENT, POLITICS,
AND CIVIL SOCIETY
Chuck has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in government, politics, and Civil Society. He served as a two-term Commissioner and Representative of Ndokwa Federal Constituency in Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) from 2011 to 2015. He was also a two-term Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor first on Political Matters and secondly on Community Development between 2018 and 2023.

Given his many years of experience in government and politics, Chuck became an influential figure in both local and national politics in Nigeria. In 2014, during the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan, Chukwudi Eke in collaboration with several non-governmental organizations and some eminent personalities hosted one ethnic-nationality conference and rally in Cenotaph Park in Asaba, Delta state. The event attracted both federal government appointees including then Minister of Information, Hon. Labaran Maku, and elected officials such as former Deputy Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahaim Mantu.

The wife of then Delta state governor, Her Excellency, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan also attended the event. And the State Commissioner of Information, Hon. Chike Ogeah, represented the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who was inevitably absent because of his official assignment elsewhere. Equally, some traditional rulers from Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba ethnic nationalities and Niger-Delta region attended the ceremony. Many non-governmental organizations and youth groups from the six geo-political zones were in attendance
Civil Society and Human Rights Activism
Chuck is an accomplished career professional with diverse experience in various fields. He’s a multi-talented and innovative disruptor, a great event organizer, and an active participant in non-governmental organizations at both local and international levels. Eke, who has more than 30 years of experience in civil society activism had hitherto organized, participated in, and attended numerous local and international training programs, seminars, and events including United Nations (UN) conferences about environmental protection, nature conservation, and business and human rights especially in areas where extractive industries and oil explorations are located.

Chuck is a member of Rotary International. On November 26, 2024, he was the Guest Speaker at the meeting of Rotary Club of Global Impact (RCOGI). The title of the speech of this unconventional but trailblazing filmmaker was “The Purpose and Global Importance of the Rainbow Film in Combating the Dangers of Drug Abuse, Human Trafficking and Illicit Sex Trade in a World Torn Apart by Racism.

And during the meeting of RCOGI on December 12, 2024, Patricia Freudenberg, the President of Rotary Club of Global Impact, announced that Chukwudi Chuck Eke has been appointed as Chair of Rotary Foundation. To God be all the glory, and Chuck pledged to do his best in serving humanity through serving Rotary Club of Global Impact in his capacity as the Chair of Rotary Foundation with its international headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, USA. ACTIVISM AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Besides, as the Program Director of Foundation for the Conservation of the Earth (FOCONE), Chuck participated in the meetings of Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) on Security and Human Rights. The VPI promotes “a set of principles that guides companies on how to conduct their security operations while respecting human rights.” Despite the COVID pandemic, for instance, in May 2022, Chuck flew into Toronto, Canada, from the US to attend the 2022 Plenary Meeting of Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI). Also, in May 2023, as the Representative of FOCONE, Chuck flew into the UK to attend the 2023 Plenary Meeting of the VPI in Kensington, London.

Chuck Eke’s activism in the promotion and protection of human rights in Sub-Saharan Africa is commendable. He has written and shared strategic and constructive Papers on the sustainable roles which governments (local and international), businesses (local and multinational), and the civil society can individually and collectively play towards enhancing the security of lives and protection of human rights in the spirit of UN Agenda 21 and UN Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) 2015-2030.

In December 2019, working in collaboration with couple of non-governmental organizations, Chuck hosted United Nations Human Rights Day in Asaba in the oil-rich state of Delta state, Nigeria. The Human Rights Day is usually observed worldwide on December 10 each year to “commemorate the anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).”

Earlier, in November 2017, Chukwudi participated in the 6th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights (UNFBHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The UNFBHR is “the global platform for yearly stock-taking and lesson-sharing on efforts to move the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights from paper to practice. The central theme of the 2017 Forum is ‘Realizing Access to Effective Remedy.

Before that as the President of Foundation Against Social Trauma and Environmental Ravages (FASTER), Chukwudi hosted World Environment Day (WED) celebration in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. To support his efforts in celebrating the World Environment Day (WED) event, the Lagos state Secretariat of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) dispatched many Corpers to assist Chukwudi and his NGO in street cleaning, clearing of gutters, and planting of flowers and shrubs in promoting environment in some streets in the Ikeja area of Lagos state.

Interestingly, the Management of University of Lagos freely provided the venue where Chukwudi Eke’s NGO known as Foundation Against Social Trauma and Environmental Ravages (FASTER) hosted a Seminar in line with UN theme, “Our Earth, Our Future: Just Save It.” The seminar was well organized and attracted eminent personalities from public and private sectors as well as attendees from the academia and the press.
Political Activism, Support for National Leaders, and Participation in Nation-Building Through Electing Public Officers
Several of Chuck’s skills and competences are public communication skills, canvassing, and mass mobilization. He tactically engages these skills and abilities in the electioneering process with the political mobilization because as Chuck stated, “elections are one of the cornerstones of sustainable democracy and elections provide the opportunity for citizens to participate in nation-building.”
Chuck Volunteered for the Democratic Party and VP Kamala Harris
In 2024, Chuck volunteered in the VP Karmala Harris Campaign. For three days, he participated in the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19-21. Besides his participation in the 2024 DNC, Chuck also campaigned for VP Kamala Harris in 3 states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, and New Hampshire. Some of the in-person campaigns in New Hampshire took place in Merrimack, Manchester, and Nashua. Chuck Volunteered for the Labour Party and Peter Obi
Also, fully aware of the smart mix of politics and electioneering towards good governance within the context of nation-building, Chuck also participated in the Presidential Campaign of Peter Obi in the 2022/23 presidential election cycle in Nigeria. After reactivating the socio-political structure that he used to campaign for Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2018/19 election year, Chukwudi created another group named Hon Eke Vanguard 4 Obi-Datti. Comprising thousands of volunteers including political stalwarts, many Labour Party members, some PDP members, and youths, women leaders, young adults, and elders, the Hon Eke Vanguard 4 Obi-Datti spread across different states in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. For instance, Hon Eke Vanguard 4 Obi-Datti had chapters in the states of Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Anambra, Imo, Delta, Edo, Borno, and the FCT among others. For more information, especially to see some of the many pictures and videos of Chuck Eke in action with his Hon Eke Vanguard 4 Obi-Datti, check the gallery below.
Chuck still has another socio-political group known as Rev Eke Vanguard that has been around for many years. The Rev Eke Vanguard comprises thousands of youths and young adult followers. Chuckwudi Eke is also pioneer Patron of Coalition of Ndokwa Peace Ambassadors (CONPA). In fact, CONPA the peace-focused organization of youths and young adults of Ndokwa ethnic nationality was originally created in the Gazebo hut in Chuck Eke’s family house in Asaba in Delta state of Nigeria with Chuck as its first Patron.

Interestingly, through his charismatic nature, Chukwudi easily endears himself to youths and young adults as well as grassroots leaders and elderly people in different communities of Delta state and Nigeria and even beyond through his humility, teamplayer mindset, forthrightness, and friendship which cut across age, sex, race, and religious boundaries.
