Besides, as the
Program Director of
Foundation for the Conservation of the Earth (FOCONE), Chuck participated in the meetings of
Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) on Security and Human Rights. The VPI promotes “a set of principles that guides companies on how to conduct their security operations while respecting human rights.” Despite the COVID pandemic, for instance, in May 2022, Chuck flew into Toronto, Canada, from the US to attend the 2022 Plenary Meeting of Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI). Also, in May 2023, as the Representative of FOCONE, Chuck flew into the UK to attend the 2023 Plenary Meeting of the VPI in Kensington, London.
Chuck Eke’s activism in the promotion and protection of human rights in Sub-Saharan Africa is commendable. He has written and shared strategic and constructive Papers on the sustainable roles which governments (local and international), businesses (local and multinational), and the civil society can individually and collectively play towards enhancing the security of lives and protection of human rights in the spirit of UN Agenda 21 and UN Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) 2015-2030.
In December 2019, working in collaboration with couple of non-governmental organizations, Chuck hosted United Nations Human Rights Day in Asaba in the oil-rich state of Delta state, Nigeria. The Human Rights Day is usually observed worldwide on December 10 each year to “commemorate the anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).”
Earlier, in November 2017, Chukwudi participated in the 6
th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights (UNFBHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The UNFBHR is “the global platform for yearly stock-taking and lesson-sharing on efforts to move the
UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights from paper to practice. The central theme of the 2017 Forum is ‘Realizing Access to Effective Remedy.
Before that as the President of Foundation Against Social Trauma and Environmental Ravages (FASTER), Chukwudi hosted
World Environment Day (WED) celebration in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. To support his efforts in celebrating the World Environment Day (WED) event, the Lagos state Secretariat of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) dispatched many Corpers to assist Chukwudi and his NGO in street cleaning, clearing of gutters, and planting of flowers and shrubs in promoting environment in some streets in the Ikeja area of Lagos state.
Interestingly, the Management of University of Lagos freely provided the venue where Chukwudi Eke’s NGO known as Foundation Against Social Trauma and Environmental Ravages (FASTER) hosted a Seminar in line with UN theme, “Our Earth, Our Future: Just Save It.” The seminar was well organized and attracted eminent personalities from public and private sectors as well as attendees from the academia and the press.
